Resources

There are many resources available to assist schools and communities in designing and creating school gardens. In building or improving a school garden there are many considerations, including site location, climate, local laws and ordinances, access to water, maintenance and building costs. These will affect the scope of the garden, and consulting with an experienced designer who is familiar with the local of the garden site will provide insight and guidance. It is ideal to have a broad idea of what the long term master site plan for the school will be as well as an outline for the garden design itself, and how it relates to other uses of the site. Because each site is unique, the projects and curriculum will also be individualized.
